A journey into the soul of you dogs emotions
This is an amazing book. I thought I knew a lot about dogs, but now I know just how wrong I was. This book teaches you how to interpret our dogs body language . You think you know what they are feeling, but this shows us a more in depth interpretation. There is nothing better than looking into your dogs eyes and really seeing them look back at you with pure love.
I learned how to get that connection with this book. My new dog turned very aggressive with my older dog when she turned 2.
Rob Wright helped me teach her to calm down. I love the phrase “ it’s ok” so simple but so meaningful to our dogs. What I thought was fear turned out to be anger and frustration ( l learned the difference from this book) in my dog. I tell her in a gentle voice that it’s ok and I see her soften. If you ever wondered what your dog is feeling or thinking read this book. It is an easy read with segments , where you observe your dog for say 7 days and take notes. Very eye opening.
You and you dog will develop a closer bond with the help of this book.

I have just read this book and it’s really insightful, and has really helped me to understand my dogs emotions. I also know Rob personally through his help with my Romanian rescue dog, he is a kind and patient man who is dedicated to helping dogs and their owners. I can’t thank him enough for the help and guidance he gave Smarties and myself.

This book is amazing. It has already made a significant difference in how I connect with my own dog. What’s been especially valuable is how it’s helped me better understand my dog’s emotional signals, which has made our relationship stronger and more harmonious.
But it’s not just for dog owners—this book is also incredibly useful for anyone who interacts with dogs, whether you’re walking through the park or simply encounter them on a daily basis. I’ve found that understanding the emotional language of dogs has made me more confident in knowing what to expect from them, even when they’re not my own. It’s been especially helpful in situations where I might encounter a dog I don’t know, as the book explains how to read their body language and emotional cues. This has really boosted my confidence and helped me feel more at ease around dogs in general.
I think this book is a great resource not only for dog owners but also for those who may be intimidated or fearful of dogs. The more we understand them, the less we have to fear. I truly believe that this book helps bridge that gap and fosters a greater understanding of our canine companions.
Rob Wright has done a wonderful job putting together a guide that’s insightful, compassionate, and practical. Whether you’re a dog owner or simply someone who wants to understand dogs better, this book is a must-read. I only wish I had found it sooner—it would have made a big difference in how I approached my relationship with my dog from the start.
Thank you Rob!

In our busy, busy left-brained human world, it’s all too easy to expect our dogs to learn and adapt at our pace, and behave as we want them to without question.
This book is a reminder that they are not humans; they are dogs - and to have the most fulfilling relationship with them, we need to meet them half way rather than just trying to bend them to our will, despite their natural inclination to want to please us.
Read from cover to cover, there is a lot of repetition in the book. However, this makes it easy to delve into a particular topic and take away both useful insights and practical solutions to specific problems, without missing a key tip.
The log exercises are useful for spotting what is actually happening and any behaviour patterns, whilst eliminating some of our assumptions and preconceptions. They also remind us that developing a strong, positive bond with our dog takes time and discipline - from us, not just our dog!
Whilst I found the very frequent academic citations a bit distracting, I appreciated their inclusion for further reading. The case studies also helped to provide practical context.
All in all, this book is a great aid for anyone who really wants to be the best companion they can to their faithful friend!
